Initial Application Under the Nursing Act 1995
         

The requirements for applying for registration or enrolment under Sections 20 and 22 of the Nursing Act 1995 are that the person:

Has successfully completed an accredited course in nursing education in Tasmania; or
Has successfully completed a course in nursing education outside Tasmania that the Board considers to be at least substantially equivalent to an accredited course in nursing; or
Has experience and training in nursing practice that the Board considers to be at least substantially equivalent to the successful completion of an accredited course in nursing; and
Is eligible to apply for registration and enrolment; and
Has sufficient physical capacity, mental capacity and competence to practise; and
Is of good character; and
Has an adequate command of the English Language.

Request an initial application form
Send completed application form along with the required documents, identification and appropriate fee to the Board.
Original or certified copies of documents required to register with the Board are acceptable. Copies must be certified by a Justice of the Peace, Commissioner for Declarations or a Notary Public.

Additional Qualification Nurse Practitioner

How to apply to register a Midwifery or Mental Health qualification.
The Board has determined that in line with other States and Territories it will continue to recognise accredited post-graduate education programs at the level of Graduate Diploma in Mental Health for authorisation as a Mental Health/Psychiatric Nurse. The Board continues to recognise nurses who were educated prior to 1997 who had completed an accredited course at the time. The Board may grant authorisation to nurses who apply through Mutual Recognition having been authorised in another State or Territory.

Application for Additional Qualification under the Nursing Act 1995

For nurses already registered in Tasmania who wish to have an additional qualification added to their registration the following documents are required.

Initial registration certificate
Transcript of training or School of Nursing certificate


Date of expiry of registration or enrolment

The registration year in Tasmania is 1 September to 31 August each year. Please note that all nurses/midwives are required to renew their annual practising certificate by 31 August each year if they intend to practise nursing/midwifery the following year.
