Accreditation is one way in which the Board fulfils its responsibility of public protection in that it provides assurance that courses prepare graduates with those competencies essential for entry to practice. The Board accredits courses leading to registration, enrolment, authorisation and protection of title.
Under the Nursing Act 1995 the Nursing Board of Tasmania has the power to provide accreditation of courses leading to registration or enrolment and postgraduate courses leading to authorisation on the Register of protected titles under the Act, namely: midwife and psychiatric nurse.
The Board also provides accreditation of re-entry programs, approval of education institutions/organisations that provide re-entry programs and approval of health care facilities that provide supervised clinical practise placements for nurses wishing to re-enter the workforce.
