Education Providers

The undergraduate courses accredited by the Board are the Bachelor of Nursing and the Certificate IV in Health (Nursing).

The Board accredits the above courses and approves the educational providers to conduct the accredited courses. The Nursing Board of Tasmania provides guidelines for education providers to assist them in developing their course submission for accreditation.

Successful completion of an accredited Bachelor of Nursing course leads to registration as a nurse. The University of Tasmania School of Nursing which is accredited at the State level is the sole provider of the undergraduate nursing course in Tasmania that leads to registration.

The University of Tasmania School of Nursing also provides accredited postgraduate courses leading to authorisation as a midwife or psychiatric/mental health nurse.

Re-entry to Practise

For those nurses whose registration/enrolment has lapsed for periods of five years or greater, an accredited Re-entry program is required in order for nurses to re-register or re-enrol as a nurse. The Board approves education institutions/organisations to provide these courses. For those health care facilities wishing to offer supervised clinical practise placements for re-entry program participants, the Board provides guidelines on how to develop a submission for approval.
